There
was a major encounter battle at Brunswick involving three corps per side.
The
French were delayed moving through the city
The
Prussians held their ground, but suffered heavier casualties
An
attack by the Old Guard was repulsed
But
nightfall the French held their ground, including Brunswick
At
nightfall the Prussians withdrew towards Wolfsburg
The
occupation of Brunswick by the French is significant
The
city is the primary campaign objective for both armies
To
claim victory in the campaign the French also have to defeat the Prussian Army
Although
Napoleon has won this battle, he has not defeated Blucher
