1 April 1813 – North Germany

Tactical Map

Both armies have suffered heavy casualties throughout the campaign, and particularly at the second battle of Magdeburg.   At the end of that battle the French hold the city, and the Prussians are retreating.   Blucher accepts that he will require some time to regroup, resupply and replace his battle casualties, and that he can no longer take the offensive.  He orders his Army to retreat towards Berlin to recover.
Napoleon orders his Army to concentrate at Magdeburg.
 Strategic Map
