29 July 1813 – Linares Campaign - Day 12

Suchet has ordered his army to concentrate at Baylen
8th, 15th and 16th corps are in position
7th corps is out of supply and unable to move until resupplied

Giron orders all four Spanish corps to attack Baylen

Both armies have suffered battle casualties, and most brigades are affected
Consequently the morale and combat ability of both armies is degraded.

The Spanish opened the battle with 2nd, 3rd and 4th corps and pinned the French
1st corps arrived at midday, when Giron ordered all four corps to attack

The French artillery failed to inflict many casualties
Consequently the Spanish were able to deliver their attack
They captured Baylen and routed 16th Italian corps
Suchet then ordered a general retreat.
