Napoleon
orders 1st corps to attack Kuhfelde, and his reserve to support
Blucher
orders his reserve to march to support 2nd corps
3rd
French corps occupies Dahre and secures the depot there
Napoleon
deploys all of his infantry on his right, with cavalry and artillery on his
left
When his
reserve arrive they are also ordered to deploy on the left
He then
forms both cavalry brigades into a division
He takes
personal command of both the guard and reserve artillery
The
infantry attack the outnumbered Prussian infantry on the right
Two
brigades in the open are broken and rout
But the
village garrison holds against the attack, despite 20% casualties
All four
guard infantry brigades have casualties and withdraw to regroup
The
French cavalry reserve are faced by combined cavalry, infantry and artillery
Napoleon
deploys his combined artillery against the Prussians
They rout
the infantry, but fail to weaken the cavalry and artillery
Napoleon
is unwilling to commit his cavalry against such odds
All four
French infantry brigades suffer casualties, and one breaks and routs
The
Prussians suffer more casualties, and end the day with three brigades in rout
However
they hold both the town and the village and can thus claim victory.
