7 August 1813 – Battle of Roth

General Schwartzenberg has orders all four Austrian corps to attack
This has resulted in three battles over a large area
This is the eastern battle.
1st Austrian corps has been ordered to attack Roth
12th Baden corps has orders to hold Roth
Both corps have fought at the battle of Kindling on 3 August 1813.

Austrian – 11600 infantry, 1000 cavalry, 30 guns
Baden – 12000 infantry, 800 cavalry, 30 guns

Baden corps is deployed between the hill and the walled farm
4 infantry brigade has been detached to act as garrison of Roth

The Austrians will arrive along the centre road at the start of move 1
0800-1200
1st Austrian corps arrive, deploy and advance towards Roth
The hussar brigade has moved onto the hill

The Baden cavalry, who have 20% casualties, retreat to avoid a cavalry melee
4 infantry brigade has been moved out of the town to support the cavalry on the hill

Both Austrian and Baden artillery have opened fire, but no casualties yet.
1200-1600
Austrian cavalry charge and rout Baden cavalry
Klenau orders his infantry to attack
As they move forward the left hand brigade come under artillery fire
They suffer 20% casualties but continue to advance
Austrian cavalry rally and charge infantry column
They are driven off but both cavalry and artillery are shaken
Remaining Austrian infantry rout infantry and gunners

Conclusion
Storkhorn has lost two of his infantry brigades, plus his cavalry and artillery
Remaining infantry brigade retire in square to cover the retreat

The Baden have lost 1700 casualties and 6 guns
The Austrians have lost 900 casualties
