Austrian and 10th Bavarian corps continue to recover from Wassenburg
Oudinot
continues to redistribute his supplies between depots
Schwartzenberg
orders 1st, 3rd and 4th corps to attack
Rosenheim
Oudinot
occupied a strong defensive position.
His left was held by Rosenheim, which was unlikely to fall to anything
less than a full and determined attack.
His right was protected by the dense woods, which would break up any
attack. 11th corps held the
centre, and would have to advance clear of the woods to deploy.
It
was clear to Schwartzenberg that the main attack would have to be in the
centre. 3rd corps would
secure his right flank, but not attack.
4th corps would do the same on his left flank, but would have
to occupy the woods to prevent a flank attack on the centre.
He
created a strong reserve by combining 1st and 4th cavalry
with three infantry brigades from 3rd corps. This force would form on the centre right,
with 1st corps infantry and artillery centre left. After an artillery barrage the whole would
advance and smash the Bavarian centre.
And
so it turned out. With light casualties
of only 900 he routed five Bavarian brigades and inflicted 3100 casualties.
At
last a victory for the Austrians, and what a victory!
