16 April 1813 - Central Germany



Davout has ordered 6th French and 14th Westphalian corps to hold Meiningen
Both corps need to resupply and the Westphalians have 2800 battle casualties

Wittgenstein is determined to retake Meiningen before the French can consolidate.
Both 3rd and 4th corps are full strength, though one brigade is detached on garrison duty

The French quickly recover from their surprise and deploy to meet the attack.
The resulting battle is determined and hard fought.
Both armies lose considerable casualties
However at nightfall the Westphalians still hold Meiningen
The Russian attack has failed

French lose 4300 casualties and three brigades in rout
Russians lose 4200 casualties and three brigades in rout
