02 June 1813 – Battle of Erlangen – Left Wing

Tactical map of battle area
Oudinot has recovered from the earlier battles sooner than the Austrians
This is because he had to retreat and is nearer to his supply base
He has ordered an unexpected attack hoping to catch the enemy unprepared

Bavarians attack Erlangen
Austrian – 27600 infantry, 2000 cavalry, 57 guns
Bavarian – 26800 infantry, 1900 cavalry, 54 guns
Table at start of wargame
This battle covers too large an area to wargame on one table
The two battles, named left and right wing, take part at the same time
But will be fought as two wargames.

All four corps on table at start of wargame

The Austrians have advanced to occupy the farm (top)
They have also deployed behind the broken ground (bottom)
3rd Austrian hussars have charged the Bavarian artillery
Gunners have taken shelter in the nearby square
12th Baden have advanced to attack the farm

Baden cavalry charge the disordered hussars who rout with 20% casualties
The Baden cavalry then charge the nearby guns, receive 10% casualties but still charge home.  The Austrian gunners join the cavalry in rout.
The Baden infantry lose the skirmish fight for the farm
All four brigades have casualties from previous fighting
When one brigade lose their morale and rout, the remainder join them.

With half of his infantry in rout Outinot orders the remainder to halt and hold
The Austrians still hold the farm and inn and have won this part of the battle
The Bavarians have lost 500 casualties and four brigades in rout
The Austrians have lost 1200 casualties and three brigades in rout
