8 August 1813 – Southern Germany – End of Nuremberg Campaign


Start of Campaign

The Nuremberg campaign was the sixth phase in southern Germany between the Third French Army commanded by Marshal Oudinot and the Austrian Army under General Schwartzenberg.   It lasted seven days and there were six battles.   Schwartzenberg won five of the six.

The Austrians won the Nuremberg campaign phase.

The campaign started on 10 March and ended on 28 April 2018.

Battles Fought

The campaign started with Schwartzenberg determined to continue his run of victories against Oudinot’sThird Army.

It started well for the Austrian’s, with their victory at Wendelstein on the second day.   The following day they defeated the Bavarian’s again at Schwabach and Kindling.

Oudinot withdrew his battered army, but was forced to fight again before he could concentrate them.   There were three battles on the seventh day.  Oudinot won at Fischbach, but lost at Nuremberg and Roth.

The campaign ended in a comprehensive Austrian victory
