9 October 1813 – Battle of Rosenheim

Oudinot has taken Rosenheim but must hold it to win the campaign
He army is too far forward to supply, and is down to two days supplies
He is trying to bring forward supplies from his base at Bad Tolz

Schwartzenberg must retake Rosenheim or admit defeat
His army are still weak with battle casualties
And he is slightly outnumbered by Oudinot
However he cannot afford to wait any longer
He orders his army to attack

Bavarian – 40000 infantry, 2900 cavalry, 90 guns
Austrian – 38000 infantry, 2800 cavalry, 90 guns

Schwartzenberg has created a reserve cavalry division
It consists of the cavalry brigades from 1st and 4th corps
It is under his personal command for this battle only

Schwartzenberg has held his two flanks, and attacked in the centre
The result is a convincing Austrian victory

During the night both the whole Bavarian army retreat

The Austrians have lost 900 casualties
The Bavarians have lost 3100 casualties and five brigades in rout
