17 October1813 – Southern Germany – End of Rosenheim Campaign

Start of Campaign

The Rosenheim campaign was the seventh phase in southern Germany between the Third French Army commanded by Marshal Oudinot and the Austrian Army under General Schwartzenberg.   It lasted fifteen days and there were seven battles.   Schwartzenberg won three of the seven.

The Austrians won the Rosenheim campaign phase.

The campaign started on 29 August and ended on 30 November 2019

Battles Fought

The campaign started with Schwartzenberg determined to continue his run of victories against Oudinot’s Third Army.

It started well for Oudinot when he defeated the Austrians at Wassenburg.   He followed this up with two more victories, at Rosenheim and again at Wassenburg.

Schwartzenberg won the next battle at Rosenheim, and twice at Holzkirchen.

The seventh battle at Bad Tolz was a nominal victory for Oudinot, who held the town when the battle ended at nightfall.   However he was outnumbered and had to retreat during the night.

So yet another Austrian victory.
