22 October 1813 – Santiago Campaign – Day 4


7th and 16th French corps have received two days supplies each
They have also rested and reorganised
However the main French depot is three days march at Astroga
The French supply system is still in disorder
A supply convoy from Astorga to Oviedo is attacked by guerrilla
But the Spanish are driven off

Wellington delays his counter attack on Corunna
2nd corps has only two days supplies
But more important he wants to see what happens at Lugo

Battle of Lugo was a French victory.
8th French corps bypassed the town and moved against the bridge
Picton reacted by moving half his infantry plus his cavalry and artillery
The arrival of cavalry and artillery from the French reserve proved decisive
The British cavalry routed and took a nearby infantry brigade with them
At nightfall 3rd British corps retreated, abandoning Lugo
