27 May 1813 – Battle of Obersdorf Day 2

7th Bavarian army retreat to Obersdorf and join garrison of 2 brigades

1st Austrian army regroup overnight and continue the attack at first light

 

Bavarian – 10 infantry brigades, 2 cavalry brigade, 2 corps artillery

Austrian – 8 infantry brigades, 2 cavalry brigade, 2 corps artillery

Both armies are in the same position as at the end of day one

However players are allowed to move brigades to and from CinC command

All casualties remain, but routed and shaken brigades have been rallied and are now formed

 

Bavarian CinC has taken command of the town, and two brigades behind it

9th corps has the open area to the left of the town

10th corps the hill to the right of the town

 

Austrian CinC has kept command of two grenadier brigades and 2nd corps artillery

1st corps are moving through the woods, their artillery on their left

CinC has kept command of two grenadier brigades plus 2nd corps artillery

2nd corps are deployed between the woods and the fortified farm

Austrian centre and right have advanced

1st corps are deploying as they leave the woods, artillery has already opened fire

CinC has moved his artillery to close range of the town, supported by the grenadiers

2nd corps hold back until the attack in the centre has developed

9th corps artillery has redeployed to fire on 1st corps as they come out of the woods

CinC holds steady in and behind Obersdorf

10th corps artillery open fire, infantry and cavalry advance to edge of hill

Austrians press home their attack

1st corps artillery rout Bavarian cavalry, infantry melee continues into second turn

Reserve artillery open fire at close range, grenadiers prepare to attack town

2nd corps rout Bavarian cavalry, infantry advance

 

Bavarians have lost both cavalry brigades, but are doing well in infantry melee

1st corps cavalry rout, but infantry force one brigade to retire shaken

Town garrison receive 10% casualties, but pass morale test

2nd corps cavalry rout, infantry form square

1st corps artillery open fire on garrison, infantry pursue retreating Bavarians

Garrison reinforced by second brigade, but receive 10% casualties and are shaken

1st corps regroup but do not pursue retreating Bavarians

CinC redeploys to meet advancing Bavarians

2nd corps most of corps in rout, one brigade left to support CinC

 

Bavarians hold left half of Obersdorf and launch counter attack

9th corps continue to rout covered by formed square and depleted cavalry

Second brigade sent to reinforce garrison of Obersdorf

10th corps advance to engage Austrians attacking Obersdorf

At night fall the Bavarians occupy all of Obersdorf

Schwarzenberg orders a general retreat

 

The Bavarians have lost 15 infantry, 3 cavalry and 2 artillery casualties (6500 men)

The Austrians have lost 10 infantry and 5 cavalry casualties (4500 men)
