30 March 1813 - Southern Spain

The French attack with four corps in a final attempt to win the campaign

At Talavera three French corps attack and three Spanish corps defend
The Spanish keep possession of the city and win the battle
The French lost 5300 casualties and five brigades in rout
The Spanish lost 4000 casualties and two brigades in rout

At Las Vantas one French corps attacks one Spanish corps
This is part of the attack, but fought as a separate battle
The result is a draw
The French have lost 2000 infantry and have two brigades in rout
The Spanish have lost 1200 infantry and 200 gunners and their artillery is in rout

The Failure of the French to take Talavera means that they have lost this phase of the campaign.
