11 July 1813 – Central Germany

Three of the four Russian corps are in position to hold the Erfurt to Rudolstadt bridge over the river Saale.   The fourth corps is ordered to abandon Hofelfelden and march north to join them.   However they will not arrive until 12 July.

Davout has only two corps in position to attack.   6th corps east of the river and 2nd corps west of the river.   He orders 6th corps to attack at daybreak.   14th corps will arrive at 0800 and 5th corps is expected by 1200.

The Gods of War smile on Davout and he achieves a comprehensive victory with minimum loss.   By nightfall all four corps have crossed the river Saale, for the loss of only 1300 casualties and one brigade in rout.

Two of the three Russian corps are in rout, and the third in retreat.   Wittgenstein has lost 6900 casualties and 6 guns.   8 of his 12 infantry brigades, and 2 of his 3 cavalry brigades, are in rout.
